"A Letter From Hell"

 

Dear Mom,

I am writing to you from the most horrible place that I have ever seen,

and more horrible than you could ever imagine.

It is BLACK here,

so DARK that I cannot even see all the souls

I am constantly bumping into.

I only know they are people like myself

from the blood curdling SCREAMS.

My voice is gone from my own screaming

as I writhe in pain and suffering.

I cannot even cry for help anymore,

and it is no use anyway,

there is no one here that has any compassion

at all for my plight.

The PAIN and suffering

in this place is absolutely unbearable.

It so consumes my every thought,

I could not know if there were any other sensation to come upon me.

The pain is so severe, it never stops day or night.

The turning of days does not appear because of the darkness.

What may be nothing more than minutes

or even seconds seems like many endless years.

The thought of this suffering continuing without end

is more than I can bear.

My mind is spinning more and more with each passing moment.

I feel like a madman,

I cannot even think clearly under this load of confusion.

I fear I am losing my mind.

The FEAR is just as bad as the pain,

May be even worse.

I don’t see how my predicament could be any worse than this,

but I am in constant fear that it MIGHT be at any moment.

My mouth is parched,

and will only become more so.

It is so dry that my tongue cleaves to the roof of my mouth.

I recall that old preacher saying that’s what Jesus Christ endured

as he hung on that old rugged cross.

There is no relief,

not so much as a single drop of water

to cool my swollen tongue.

To add even more misery to this place of torment,

I know that I deserve to be here.

I am being punished justly for my deeds.

The punishment, the pain, the suffering

is no worse than I justly deserve,

but admitting that now will never ease the anguish

that burns eternally in my wretched soul.

I hate myself for committing the sins to earn such a horrible fate,

I hate the devil that deceived me so that I would end up in this place.

And as much as I know it is an unspeakable wickedness

to think such a thing,

I hate the very God that sent his only begotten Son

to spare me this torment.

I can never blame the Christ that suffered

and bled and died for me,

but I hate him anyway.

I cannot even control my feelings

that I know to be wicked, wretched and vile.

I am more wicked and vile now

than I ever was in my earthly existence.

Oh, If only I had listened.

Any earthly torment would be far better than this.

To die a slow agonizing death from Cancer;

To die in a burning building as the victims of the 9-11 terror attacks.

Even to be nailed to a cross

after being beaten unmercifully like the Son of God;

But to choose these over my present state I have no power.

I do not have that choice.

I now understand that this torment and suffering

is what Jesus Bore for me.

I believe that he suffered,

bled and died to pay for my sins,

but his suffering was not eternal.

After three days he arose in victory over the grave.

Oh, I do SO believe, but alas, it is too late.

As the old invitation song says that I remember hearing so many times,

I am “One Day Too Late”.

We are ALL believers in this terrible place,

but our faith amounts to NOTHING.

It is too late.

The door is shut.

The tree has fallen, and here shall it lay.

In HELL. Forever lost.

No Hope, No Comfort, No Peace, No Joy.

There will never be any end to my suffering.

I remember that old preacher as he would read

“And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever:

And they have no rest day nor night”

And that is perhaps the worst thing about this terrible place.

I REMEMBER.

I remember the church services.

I remember the invitations.

I always thought they were so corny, so stupid, so useless.

It seemed I was too “tough” for such things.

I see it all different now, Mom,

but my change of heart matters nothing at this point.

I have lived like a fool,

I pretended like a fool, I died like a fool,

and now I must suffer the torments and anguish of a fool.

Oh, Mom,

how I miss so very much the comforts of home.

Never again will I know your tender caress across my fevered brow.

No more warm breakfasts or home-cooked meals.

Never again will I feel the warmth of the fireplace

on a frosty winter’s night.

Now the fire engulfs not only this perishing body

wracked with pain beyond compare,

but the fire of the wrath of an Almighty God

consumes my very inner being with an anguish

that cannot be properly described in any mortal language.

I long to just stroll through a lush green meadow in the springtime

and view the beautiful flowers,

stopping to take in the fragrance of their sweet perfume.

Instead I am resigned to the burning smell of brimstone, sulphur,

and a heat so intense that all other senses simply fail me.

Oh, Mom,

as a teenager I always hated having to listen to the fussing

and whining of the little babies in church, and even at our house.

I thought they were such an inconvenience to me,

such an irritation.

How I long just to see for a brief moment one of those innocent little faces.

But there are no babies in Hell, Mom.

There are no Bibles in Hell, dearest mother.

The only scriptures inside the charred walls of the damned

are those that ring in my ears

hour after hour, moment after miserable moment.

They offer no comfort at all, though,

and only serve to remind me of what a fool I have been.

Were it not for the futility of them Mom,

you might otherwise rejoice to know

that there is a never ending prayer meeting here in Hell.

No matter,

there is no Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf.

The prayers are so empty, so dead.

They amount to nothing more than cries for mercy

that we all know will never be answered.

Please warn my brothers Mom.

I was the eldest, and thought I had to be “cool”.

Please tell them that no one in Hell is cool.

Please warn all my friends, even my enemies,

lest they come also to this place of torment.

As terrible as this place is, Mom,

I see that it is not my final destination.

As Satan laughs at all of us here,

and as multitudes join us continually in this feast of misery,

we are constantly reminded that some day in the future,

we will all be summoned individually

to appear before The Judgment Throne of Almighty God.

God will show us our eternal fate written in the books

next to all of our wicked works.

We will have no defense,

no excuse, and nothing to say

except to confess the justice of our damnation

before the supreme judge of all the earth.

Just before being cast into our final destination of torment,

the Lake of Fire,

we will have to look upon the face of him

who willingly suffered the torments of hell

that we might be delivered from them.

As we stand there in his holy presence

to hear the pronouncement of our damnation,

you will be there Mom to see it all.

Please forgive me for hanging my head in shame,

as I know I will not be able to bear to look upon your face.

You will already be conformed into the image of the Saviour,

and I know it will be more than I can stand.

I would love to leave this place and join you and so many others

I have known for my few short years on earth.

But I know that will never be possible.

Since I know I can never escape the torments of the damned,

I say with tears, with a sorrow and deep despair

that can never be completely described,

I never want to see any of you again.

Please don’t ever join me here.

"Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the
Lord's side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi
gathered themselves together unto him" (Exodus 32:26).

How would God crush the corruption in Israel? Who would He
choose to be His instruments in a time of evil? Would angels
come down and execute righteous judgment? Aaron and his
sons had already corrupted themselves so who would God raise
up to shine forth as His soldiers of holiness?

Of all people, He chose the sons of Levi-sons of that murderer
who, with his brother Simeon, had caused Jacob´s family to be
shamed before the heathen. Simeon and Levi each took a sword
and slew Shechem for raping their sister Dinah. They also killed
his father Hamor and then took their sheep, oxen and donkeys,
their wealth, and their wives and children.

Oh, the matchless grace of God-to choose the most unworthy,
the weakest of them all-to be His instruments. "All the sons of
Levi gathered themselves together unto him. . . . And the children
of Levi did according to the word of Moses" (Exodus 32: 26, 28).

Perhaps there was something deep within them that said, "We
will not fail God as our father did! We will not bring reproach on
the name of our God; we will step out and take our stand with
the Lord!"

Moses had promised them, "God will reward you if you consecrate
yourself and take a stand among your family, friends and brothers"
(see Exodus 32:29). And God did reward them with a semi-priestly
order called the Levites, who were given to the service of God´s house.

Being on the Lord´s side is taking His sword and using it to combat
the forces of unbelief, putting down all doubts and fears. It means
standing true to God and His Word no matter what the crowd does;
no matter how faithless our friends become; no matter how worldly
our dearest loved ones are. We must step out and declare, "I am
on the Lord´s side! I come out against all attacks on the majesty
and faithfulness of our God!"

Pentagon May Court-Martial Christians for Sharing Their Faith in Military

                             

No First Amendment right of free speech for U.S. soldiers!

The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: "Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense...Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis...”. 

The statement, released to Fox News, follows a Breitbart News report on Obama administration Pentagon appointees meeting with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith.

(From our earlier report: Weinstein is the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and says Christians--including chaplains--sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the military are guilty of “treason,” and of committing an act of “spiritual rape” as serious a crime as “sexual assault.” He also asserted that Christians sharing their faith in the military are “enemies of the Constitution.”)

Being convicted in a court martial means that a soldier has committed a crime under federal military law. Punishment for a court martial can include imprisonment and being dishonorably discharged from the military.

So President Barack Obama’s civilian appointees who lead the Pentagon are confirming that the military will make it a crime--possibly resulting in imprisonment--for those in uniform to share their faith. This would include chaplains—military officers who are ordained clergymen of their faith (mostly Christian pastors or priests, or Jewish rabbis)--whose duty since the founding of the U.S. military under George Washington is to teach their faith and minister to the spiritual needs of troops who come to them for counsel, instruction, or comfort.

This regulation would severely limit expressions of faith in the military, even on a one-to-one basis between close friends. It could also effectively abolish the position of chaplain in the military, as it would not allow chaplains (or any service members, for that matter), to say anything about their faith that others say led them to think they were being encouraged to make faith part of their life. It’s difficult to imagine how a member of the clergy could give spiritual counseling without saying anything that might be perceived in that fashion.

In response to the Pentagon’s plans, retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, who is now executive vice president of the Family Research Council (FRC), said on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning:

It’s a matter of what do they mean by "proselytizing." ...I think they’ve got their defintions a little confused. If you’re talking about coercion that’s one thing, but if you’re talking about the free exercise of our faith as individual soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, especially for the chaplains, they I think the worst thing we can do is stop the ability for a soldier to be able to exercise his faith.”

FRC has launched a petition here which has already collected over 30,000 signatures, calling on Secretary Hagel is stop working with Weinstein and his anti-Christian organization to develop military policy regarding religious faith.

"2014 - 2016: A PROPHETIC MESSAGE FROM THE HEAVENS"

 

God has given us the heavens for many things… “to divide day and night, to distinguish time, to separate seasons and for “SIGNS.” God uses the stars, the planets, the sun, moon, and other heavenly bodies to send messages of importance to earth. His Word tells us…

• “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for SIGNS, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” (Genesis 1:14) 

He sent a heavenly message to earth in the form of a bright star in the East at the arrival of His Son on earth 2,000 years ago! He will send a heavenly warning before the second coming of His Son in the near future…. 

• “ And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. (Matthew 24:30) 

The heavens have shouted many messages to earth throughout the history of man. God’s Word warns us of important messages to come.

• “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring. (Luke 21:25)

• "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD comes." (Joel 2:31)

Incredible signs from the heavens are occurring in 2013 and will continue into 2014 and through 2016. Heaven is shouting a mighty message to earth. The Coming of the Messiah is at hand!!! Is Earth listening? The following spectacular celestial events are unprecedented in human history:

I. THE COMING FOUR BLOOD MOONS: 2014 – 2015

Blood moons (lunar eclipses) have occurred at times throughout human history. A tetrad (four) consecutive blood moons (lunar eclipses) are unusual. However, blood moons occurring on Jewish high holy days are even rarer. When they occur, Jewish rabbis teach that God is warning that something very significant is about to happen to His chosen people, Israel. They also teach that solar eclipses are signs that divine judgment is about to fall on Gentile nations.

History gives detail to the events that occurred when four consecutive blood moons appeared on either the Passover of the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). The following three tetrads occurred during these high holy days:

• 1492-93: In Spain, the final year of the bloody Inquisition was in full swing. Jews who refused to convert to Catholicism had their property confiscated; thousands were beaten, arrested or killed. Then, the Alhambra Decree ordered the expulsion of all remaining Jews who refused to convert. In 1492, an explorer named Columbus discovered a massive continent, later called America, which would become a safe-haven to millions of Jewish immigrants. 

• 1948: After the horrors of the Holocaust, the Jews were given a homeland in the Middle East. Israel was reborn as a nation. The Jews were home again after 2,000 years. 

• 1967-68: Israel was invaded on all sides by Egypt, Jordan, Syria and other Arabic armies. It appeared that the tiny Jewish State would be overwhelmed and destroyed. Miracle after military miracle occurred and the Jews destroyed the invading armies and took over the West Bank and the ancient city of Jerusalem. The Holy City was in their hands for the first time in almost 2,000 years. 

The fourth occurrence of four rare blood moons will occur on Jewish high holy days starting in 2014 through 2015:

• Passover April 15, 2014: The first of the four blood moons. 
• Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) October 8, 2014: The second blood moon. 
• Passover: April 4, 2015: The third blood moon. 
• Feast of Tabernacles September 28, 2015: The fourth blood moon. 

Other unusual heavenly events will occur during the 2014-2015 time period: 

• Adar 29/Nisan 1 (beginning of the Jewish religious calendar) a solar eclipse will occur. This will be on March 20-21, 2015. 
• Rosh Hashanah (Feast of Trumpets), the second solar eclipse will be on September 13, 2015. 

According to Rev. Mark Biltz of El Shaddai Ministries, four lunar eclipses occurring on the Feast of Tabernacles and Passover in two successive years are phenomenal. But add to them two solar eclipses on the two days that open the Jewish year – Adar 29/Nisan1, just two weeks before Passover, and on Tishri 1 (Rosh Hashannah) – it is uncanny! On each of these six Jewish Holy Days, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give her light. NASA states that this will not happen again in the 21st century!

The four blood moons of 2014-2015 foretell that something tremendous is about to happen to Israel. The two solar eclipses forewarn of events that will happen to Gentile nations. 

II. THE SABBATICAL YEAR AND THE YEAR OF JUBILEE

The unprecedented lunar and solar eclipses in 2014-15 have additional phenomena added to them….the Sabbatical Year and the Year of Jubilee!

God prescribed a time of rest for man and the earth in the laws given to Moses long ago. God decreed that the 7th day of the week would be a Sabbath day of rest. The 7th year (Shmita) was to be a Sabbath rest year and the 7th Shmita (the 49th year) was to be a Sabbatical Year. The year following, the 50th year was to be the Year of Jubilee. During the Jubilee, all debts were to be cancelled, slaves set free and all land lost was to be restored.

History records the last Sabbatical year (49th year) occurred in 1965-66. The next year 1966-67, was the Year of Jubilee. During this Jubilee, Israel recaptured Jerusalem in the Six Day War!!

2014-2015 is the Jewish Sabbatical Year! 2015-2016 is the Year of Jubilee! With these added to the blood moons and the solar eclipses, God is sending a very BIG message to earth!

III. MORE SIGNS FROM HEAVEN!

There are additional heavenly signs added to the aforementioned phenomenal celestial events:

• On February 15, 2013, the closest asteroid in history zipped past the earth. Scientist state that the asteroid, referred to as 2012 DA14, had a diameter of approximately 45m and an estimated mass of 130,000 tons. Scientist labeled this event as “an incredibly near miss.” Impact with the earth would have been catastrophic. 
• Also on February 15, 2013, a meteor exploded over Russia's Ural Mountains with the power of an atomic bomb, its sonic blasts shattering countless windows and injuring about 1,100 people. The meteor -- estimated to be about 10 tons and 49 feet wide -- entered the Earth's atmosphere at a hypersonic speed of at least 33,000 mph and shattered into pieces about 18-32 miles above the ground. Millions of dollars worth of damage was sustained by nearby cities. 
• The comet “PanSTARRS” will made an appearance in the heavens and be visibly seen streaking through the skies during March 2013. 
• One of the brightest comet in human history, will light up the skies beginning November 2013 through January 2014. It will be brighter than the moon and will be able to be seen in the day time. The last such bright comet occurred in 1680 AD. It is called an “event of a civilization,” unprecedented in human history! 

IV. WHAT IS THE MESSAGE THAT HEAVEN IS SENDING TO EARTH? 

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption is near!” (Luke 21:25)

God is sending a very powerful yet clear message….THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST IS NEAR! The climax of all prophecy is at hand.Ancient prophecies are nearing the time of fulfillment, including His Return. They are:

• The War of Obadiah, in which Israel will defeat and wipe out Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Hezbollah, Hamas, and other Arabic Moslem allies is imminent. Israel “will possess her possessions”- the majority of the Middle East with its massive oil reserves. (Book of Obadiah, Psalms 83, Isaiah 17)
• The Gog-Magog War, which will be Russia’s reaction to the War of Obadiah, will occur shortly after Israel’s victory over the Arabic Islamic alliance. Russia, Iran, Turkey, Ethiopia, Libya and other allies will form a massive multi-million army to invade Israel. God will go to war on Israel’s behalf and destroy 5/6 of the invading armies and also those nations’ homelands. (Ezekiel 38 and 39)
• The Rise of the Anti Christ, the False Prophet and the One World Governmental and Religious System. A 7 Year Treaty of peace and protection will be signed by all nations, including Israel, with the Anti Christ. (Daniel 9:27)
• A world-wide persecution of believers in Christ will occur. (Luke 21: 12:18) 
• Deliverance of the Remnant of Israel (Micah 2:13) (Zechariah 12: 1-14) (Zechariah 13:9)
• The Battle of Armageddon and the Return of Christ. (Zechariah 14: 1-21) (Luke 21:27) (Revelation 18:11-21) 

V.   WHAT ARE THESE HEAVENLY MESSAGES SAYING TO THE CHURCH?

A Warning - Get Ready!!!!!!!!  (Luke 21:28-34)

28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
32 Truly I tell you; this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
34 Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.

 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 

36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

One day soon, your doctor might prescribe you something that looks like a colourful temporary tattoo. But when you apply it to your skin you’ll end up with more than an interesting pattern.
Your epidermis will be coated with a gossamer-thin layer of electronics. In the short term, this tattoo will be used to monitor your well-being. But in the long term it could be used to enhance your body as part of a remarkable new phase in human evolution, one foreseen by Edgar Allen Poe in the 19th century.

The immediate potential of these patches was outlined last month at the annual American Chemical Society meeting in San Diego, by Dr John Rogers of the University of Illinois.
He told the meeting that he sees these rub-on “epidermal electronics” as a new way for doctors to monitor patients. These skin patches can detect and record a series of signals to check the health of brains, hearts and muscles without tethering the owner to bulky machines using electrodes glued with gels and tape, or even needles.

The patches, encased in water-soluble plastic, are transferred to the skin just like a temporary tattoo-transfer, with a backing that peels off. Their wearers can’t feel them because they cling on to the skin by feeble electric forces between molecules (named van der Waals forces, after the Dutch physicist who first described them in 1873).

The latest patch developed by Dr Rogers’s team can both measure muscle activity and stimulate those muscles so they could be used for rehabilitation. But Dr Rogers envisages broader applications – from monitoring sporting performance to seeing how hydrated your skin is with solar-powered epidermal electronics.

These skin patches can detect and record a series of signals to check the health of brains, hearts and muscles without tethering the owner to bulky machines using electrodes glued with gels and tape, or even needles.

A giant step forward for cyborgs

What I find fascinating is the way that cyborgs have stealthily evolved on Earth. In popular culture, humans and machines are usually seen as separate, from the films of Arnold Schwarzenegger to the forthcoming movie Robot and Frank. They are often pitted against each other.

This summer will see the 100th anniversary of the birthday of the British artificial intelligence pioneer Alan Turing, and there will be much talk of his influential test of synthetic minds in which a “chatbot” is deemed intelligent if it can fool us into thinking that it’s human from its written responses (the “Turing test”).

Yet all the while, humans have steadily fused with devices such as pacemakers, contact lenses, prosthetics, insulin pumps and cochlear and retinal implants.

“For years, techno-futurists worried about a doomsday moment when electronic brains and robots got to be as smart as us,” said Dr Andrew Nahum, senior keeper at the Science Museum.

Researchers are now looking at exoskeletons to help the infirm to walk, and implants to allow paralysed people to control limbs. Some are even discussing how to enhance brain power by electronic plug-ins. And, of course, there’s now also the prospect of smart skin, thanks to the efforts of Dr Rogers’s team in Illinois.

Forget about the rise of cyborgs, or indeed the Borg of Star Trek and the Cybermen of Dr Who. Millions of cyborgs walk among us already. Within a few decades, it won’t be so easy to tell humans and machines apart. – Source – The Telegraph

There are times in our lives when we stand all alone.  People abandon or forsake us.  Friends turn away.  However, there is someone who will NEVER leave us nor forsake us.  His name is JESUS!  Give me JESUS!!

For the past eight months, pastors from seven Scotland County, NC churches have been meeting every Thursday at 8:30 AM to intercede for our country, our county and for the churches of our region. Additionally, many of these pastors have been gathering for the past 33 weeks for "Prayer on the Square" on Wednesdays at noon at the corner of Church and Main Streets in Laurinburg, NC.

Tired of the high crime rate, the shootings, the gangs, pervasive illegal drug trade and moral decline, members of these churches have joined with their pastors in a concert of prayer to intercede for the county. The prayer gathering began on Monday, December 31 at Northview Harvest Ministries. That week, the intercessors took turns meeting at East Laurinburg Baptist Church, East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, Union Grove Baptist Church, Living Waters Church of God and Multitudes Church. This concert of prayer has entered the second week at the same churches. The services are completely directed by the Holy Spirit. People gather to pray as the Holy Spirit leads. Denominational lines and racial barriers have vanished as Christians have come together as the Body of Christ to pray. How wonderful it is to see African American, Caucasian, Native American and Latino Christians joining hands in prayer and fellowship.

A group of Christians in Adams, Tennessee has begun a similar prayer gathering after hearing about what is taking place in Scotland County, NC. A group in the United Kingdom has inquired about the Scotland County united prayer. 

Prayer on the Square continues to grow along with the concert of prayer. For over eight months, faithful Christians have gathered on Wednesdays at noon to intercession. 

Results to prayer have become visible. 30 drug leaders have been arrested and the gaming industry has been shut down in Scotland County!! The pastors and churches are committed to continue to pray until a great awakening sweeps through all and radically changes Scotland County.

Scotland County Christians are reaching across racial and denominational barriers to try to save their shared community.

“Laurinburg and Scotland County have a lot of challenges,” said the Rev. Michael Edds, pastor of Cross Pointe Church. “We have one of the highest crime rates in the nation and the highest unemployment in the state. We have a lot of gangs, we have a lot of poverty, we have a lot of drugs. We’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not the government’s fault, it’s not the police or the sheriff’s department’s fault - it’s the churches’ fault.”  We have failed to pray and to take Christ to the streets of our community.  We have failed to live like Christians.

On Wednesday, Edds led the “Prayer on the Square,” a prayer group meeting on Wednesdays at noon at the corner of Church and Main streets in Laurinburg. Both meetings have attracted some 30 people, all of whom share a common goal: to combat Laurinburg’s culture of drugs and crime through prayer.  The group has been gathering going on five years.

“In the last 10 years there have been 51 murders,” said one of the intercessors. “In a county of 30,000, that’s a lot, and it’s young people. We want our community turned around. These kids are just going to hell with the drugs and the violence. There have been too many kids shot and the churches have got to step up and turn it around.”

The meetings address the common problems that plague Scotland County rather than religious or political differences.

“We’re committed to coming out here and praying for our community as a group of all races and all denominations,” Edds said. “We’re not going to fight about politics; we’re here to pray.”

“It’s not about what denomination, what color you are or what church you go to, it’s just a collective group of people,” a member of the group added. “God has really been blessing us to get together to change the city, but from a prayer standpoint first. God has some work that he wants us to do, and we’ve been a little slack on it.”

Many believe that it is time for them to step outside of the familiar walls of their own churches in order to make change in the community.

“It’s time for God’s people to stop playing church and start being the church,” said Laura Sanders. “We are, no matter what denomination, the body of Christ.”

“God did not save Daniel from the lion’s den, he saved him in it,” said Robert Currie. “He did not save the Hebrew children from the fiery furnace, he saved them in the fiery furnace. We have to take action. God parted the waters and the children of Israel walked across the dry land. God didn’t pick them up and float them across it. We have to put out an effort.”

The group is open to all who wish to join in, and will meet every Wednesday at noon at the park on the corner of Main and Church Streets,  across from First United Methodist Church.

“If it rains, shines, or snows, we’re going to be here every Wednesday,” said Edds.

Edds hopes that a shift away from the flawed and divisive behaviors sometimes practiced within the Christian community will in turn bring improvements in Scotland County at large.

“We’ve focused on what divides us, and denominational splits, and all of these silly issues,” he said. “It’s time that stuff ends. God said that if we’ll repent and turn from our wicked ways, He would hear us from heaven and heal our land. The healing of this county and this city and these communities is us praying and calling on God to come down. We’re praying for a great awakening in this town.”

Some know firsthand the difficulties of escaping a criminal lifestyle, and wish to help others by showing them how to live a Christian lifestyle.

“Everything that I prayed for, God has given to me, and he’s going to put me to work on the streets,” said Eddie Howard. “I used to be a street rambler - I must have been on drugs for 15 years or more and God saved me. I want to let them know that they can change their lives and things can turn around for the good.”

The group embraces a “love the sinner, hate the sin” philosophy, and prays that the lives of criminals can be changed to the benefit of all.

“We’re taking our community back,” said Edds. “Get saved or get busted is what we’re going to tell these gangs. It’s not us, it’s God that we’ve invited to take over the town and the county. We love people. We love the gangs, we love the drug dealers, we love all of these people - we love their souls, but they’re going to stop the crime because we’ve had enough.”

Group members say that meetings will continue until the community is satisfactorily transformed, but in the short term, progress is measured one person at a time.

“If all of this was just for one person to get saved, it was all worth it,” said Matthew Sanders.

A Project to Fingerprint 1.2 Billion People

Imagine creating a system to track 1.2 billion people, photographing them, fingerprintingthem, cataloging them and giving them all IDs.

Nandan Nilekani is not just imagining that system. He is tasked with making it a reality in India.

Nilekani is the chairman of India's Unique Identification Authority. Nilekani's previous claim to fame was as one of the founders of Infosys, India's pioneering technology firm. He recently talked to Fareed Zakaria on Sunday's "Fareed Zakaria GPS" show. Here’s an edited version of their conversation, which can also be viewed by downloading the entire show on iTunes.

ZAKARIA: So you are taking India's entire population, which previously had rarely been counted, and you are going to try and give every single person a biometric ID.

NILEKANI: That's right. We have enrolled 200 million people in the last three years since the project began. And we are using the biometrics to give them a unique number so that they don't end up having more than one number. So we're taking people, many of whom have no ID whatsoever, and taking them to the digital world. So it's like a leapfrogging of identity.

ZAKARIA: So why is this so important for India? What one hears about it is that these people are supposed to get loans, or grants or various things from the government.

NILEKANI: We still have millions of people who don't have a formal identity or acknowledgement of their existence by the state. And unless you have a formal acknowledgement or existence you can't get a bank account or a loan. You can't get a mobile phone. You can't get your entitlements. You can't get a job. You can't rent a house.  

(Dear Church of the Living God, can I make it ANY clearer?!  Here, in front of you, now, IS THE MARK OF THE BEST!!  The closing moments of this dispensation are ticking away!  How are YOU then living?!)

So everything is linked to your basic identity. In some sense you can think of as a massive inclusion program to get the poor, and the marginalized and the identity-less into the formal economy. So that's one part of it.

By having this ID system we can make sure that people's scholarships, pensions,employment guarantee schemes all direct to the right person, either into the bank account or whatever account. So it both makes government expenditure more efficient, effective and equitable, and it's a massive inclusion exercise.

ZAKARIA: How difficult is it? How much more difficult is it to deal with the bureaucracies? Or which is worse, the bureaucratic obstacles or political obstacles?

NILEKANI: The amount of time you are to invest in evangelizing and consensus building is hugely more in the public space. And crafting a strategy which is sort of acceptable to everybody really takes a great deal of time. And that's where the big difference to me between the two worlds.

The Beast out of the Sea

13 Then I saw a beast rising up out of the sea. It had seven heads and ten horns, with ten crowns on its horns. And written on each head were names that blasphemed God. 2 This beast looked like a leopard, but it had the feet of a bear and the mouth of a lion! And the dragon gave the beast his own power and throne and great authority.

3 I saw that one of the heads of the beast seemed wounded beyond recovery—but the fatal wound was healed! The whole world marveled at this miracle and gave allegiance to the beast. 4 They worshiped the dragon for giving the beast such power, and they also worshiped the beast. “Who is as great as the beast?” they exclaimed. “Who is able to fight against him?”

5 Then the beast was allowed to speak great blasphemies against God. And he was given authority to do whatever he wanted for forty-two months. 6 And he spoke terrible words of blasphemy against God, slandering his name and his dwelling—that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7 And the beast was allowed to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful.

11 Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth. He had two horns like those of a lamb, but he spoke with the voice of a dragon. 12 He exercised all the authority of the first beast. And he required all the earth and its people to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13 He did astounding miracles, even making fire flash down to earth from the sky while everyone was watching. 14 And with all the miracles he was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast, he deceived all the people who belong to this world.
